Weight loss is temporary and there is a risk of rebound:
Weight loss may occur, but this is temporary and there is a risk of rebound weight loss when the drug is stopped: studies have shown that patients regain more than two-thirds of the weight lost within a year of stopping treatment.
Supply shortage issues:
If Ozempic is used for inappropriate purposes, there is a risk that diabetes people who really need it will not be able to get their medicine.
Risks of off-label use:
In Japan, Ozempic is approved as a treatment for diabetes but not for obesity.
Use of Ozempic for cosmetic purposes is an off-label prescription, and doctors must personally take responsibility for its efficacy and safety, and may be held legally liable if any health problems occur.
Relief Does Not Apply:
Health damage caused by off-label use is not covered by drug side effect relief.
Side effects of long-term use:
Long-term use has been reported to cause serious symptoms such as unbearable stomach pain, acid reflux, worsening of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and increased risk of acute kidney failure. A causal relationship with asthma has also been pointed out in papers.
Ozempic is approved as a diabetes treatment, but has not yet been approved in Japan as an obesity treatment. Because of the side effects and legal risks of off-label use, it is important to consult thoroughly with your doctor before making a decision.
